Gumi Office of Education Holds 2026 Special Education Support Staff Capacity Building Workshop in Western Gyeongbuk Region

Fostering an Inclusive Educational Environment

On January 14, the Gumi Office of Education in North Gyeongsang Province (Superintendent Min Byungdo) held the '2026 First Half Special Education Support Staff Capacity Building Workshop' for about 160 special education support personnel in the western Gyeongbuk region (Gumi, Gimcheon, Sangju, Seongju, Goryeong, Chilgok).

This workshop included training sessions aimed at enhancing the qualifications and competencies of support staff, such as capacity building for disability rights protection and behavioral intervention support, as well as a psychological recovery program designed to promote mutual support and communication among special education support personnel. It served as a meaningful opportunity to strengthen the special education collaborative system and foster an inclusive educational environment.

In particular, the behavioral intervention support training focused on the role of support staff as direct observers of students receiving special education, and provided practical training on the A-B-C observation recording method for assessing the function of behaviors.

Shin Woonsik, Director of the Special Education Support Center, stated, "The role of support staff in special education settings is becoming increasingly important. We will strive to support a safe and meaningful school life for students receiving special education through a variety of capacity building programs."
