Achievement in Ministry of the Interior and Safety Evaluation
Secures Special Grant of 100 Million Won
Gwangju Buk-gu has been honored as an "Outstanding Local Government" in a government evaluation, recognizing its efforts to resolve inconveniences in residents' daily lives and invigorate the local economy through regulatory innovation.
On January 15, Gwangju Buk-gu announced that it was the only autonomous district in Gwangju to be selected as an outstanding institution in the "2025 Local Regulatory Innovation Performance Evaluation" organized by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, securing a special grant of 100 million won as a financial incentive.
This evaluation comprehensively assessed the regulatory discovery and improvement achievements of 243 local governments nationwide over the past year. Buk-gu received high marks across four key indicators: ▲local-tailored regulatory improvements ▲revision of autonomous regulations for tangible resident impact ▲proactive efforts to address shadow regulations ▲strengthening regulatory innovation incentives.
In particular, Buk-gu completely revised the "Administrative Regulation Innovation Ordinance," laying an institutional foundation, and received high praise for expanding the eligibility for vehicles equipped with wheelchair lifts, thereby substantially guaranteeing the mobility rights of transportation-vulnerable residents.
Additionally, Buk-gu's proposal to the central government to expand fire insurance support for traditional markets to alley-type shopping districts was ultimately accepted, leading to a review of related law amendments. This achievement is cited as a major result in leading nationwide, municipality-driven regulatory improvements.
Moon In, Mayor of Buk-gu, stated, "This award is the result of public officials' dedication to regulatory innovation while listening to even the smallest voices in the field. We will continue to strengthen resident safety while boldly eliminating unreasonable shadow regulations, delivering innovative administration that residents can truly feel."
