[Mania] From Bedroom to Campsite, a Truly Portable TV... Hands-On with 'The Moving Style'

Samsung's 'The Moving Style' Hands-On Review
Unveiled on the Global Stage at CES 2026
Sleek Design Without Visible Logos, Robust Durability
Smooth Angle Adjustment and Effortless Vertical Rotation

Smartphones, laptops, tablets... The days when families would gather in front of the TV to watch evening entertainment shows are now a thing of the past. We have entered an era where each person consumes content on multiple devices in their hands. However, it is true that the screen size of a laptop or tablet can be disappointing when watching movies or dramas. Portable TVs have found their niche in this gap. On January 16, I had the opportunity to try out the wireless portable screen 'The Moving Style,' which features a detachable design.

From January 6 to 9 (local time), Samsung Electronics demonstrated The Moving Style at its exclusive booth during CES 2026, the world's largest electronics and IT exhibition held in Las Vegas, USA. The Moving Style is a wireless portable screen product released last year, and it is a wireless version of the 'Moving Style' product that debuted in 2023. Previously, as portable screens from competitors gained popularity, Samsung's cost-effective version, 'Samten By Me,' which involved separately purchasing and attaching a portable stand to a smart monitor, spread by word of mouth. In response, Samsung introduced a wireless all-in-one product that combines a smart monitor and a portable stand, aiming to capture the market with a fully integrated solution.

The first impression of The Moving Style was its clean appearance. It consists of a monitor just over 2 cm thick and a sleek, minimalist stand. The bulkiness typical of conventional monitors is nowhere to be found, giving the product the feel of an interior accessory. In particular, the logo, speakers, and buttons are all discreetly hidden on the side, making them hard to spot unless you look closely. Even when not using the TV function, it seems unlikely to disrupt the room's interior design.

The product's biggest advantage was its ease of mobility. The rollable floor stand, which serves as the portable base, is equipped with built-in wheels that allow it to glide smoothly across the floor. Changing direction or turning corners caused minimal jolting, making it easy to move between rooms. The joints that hold the smart monitor also moved smoothly. The tilt angle can be adjusted up to 35 degrees, and the screen can be raised up to 90 degrees. Compared to other products, the directions and angles could be adjusted more smoothly, making it more convenient to use.

What stood out most was the convenience of angle adjustment, which allowed me to watch the screen even while lying on the sofa. Much like using a phone stand, I could bend the monitor arm to position the screen directly in my line of sight. This feature is likely to be most useful for single-person households or individuals watching content in separate rooms. The screen could also be rotated vertically for viewing 'shorts.' When the screen was rotated vertically, the content being viewed would automatically switch to vertical mode. I appreciated the ability to instantly switch between horizontal and vertical content. The setup seemed well-suited for users accustomed to the recent surge in short-form content consumption.

After using it for a day, I found it could be utilized in a variety of ways depending on the situation. In the morning, I played the news in the kitchen; during the day, I displayed music or the Art Store screen; and in the evening, I moved it next to the bed or living room sofa to watch content from online video services (OTT). Unlike conventional TVs, which are fixed in one location, this device could be moved and used whenever needed.

All controls could be performed not only with the included remote control but also by touch. Switching between functions and touch operations was smooth and quick. Adjusting the monitor angle and operating it by touch while lying on the sofa felt like having a giant smartphone. A light tap on the screen enabled simple remote control actions such as home, back, and menu, making it very convenient. The stability of the product's operating system (OS) was also a strong point. Major OTT applications such as Netflix, YouTube, and Disney Plus could be used directly without any additional connections, and app launch speeds and screen transitions were relatively stable.

However, one drawback was the considerable weight of the floor stand itself. It was heavy enough that an adult woman could not easily lift it. While it is fine for keeping the monitor stable after installation if used only inside the house, it may not be suitable for homes with door thresholds or for those who want to move the stand outdoors.

The smart monitor itself was clearly designed for portability. By turning the integrated kick stand handle attached to the back of the monitor upward, the monitor could be easily carried. Pulling the handle outward allowed it to serve as a simple stand. This makes it easy to use the monitor throughout the house on desks or shelves, or even as a TV while traveling. With its thin bezel and clean design, it seems highly versatile for use in exhibition halls, cafes, restaurants, workplaces, and more. The sturdy handle, which comes in handy whenever the usage scenario changes, gave the impression of solid durability.

The display quality was quite decent when the product was turned on. However, as a portable small screen, it is best not to expect the image quality of a large OLED TV. With a 27-inch QHD resolution and a high refresh rate of 120Hz, even when selecting the highest quality on YouTube or OTT services, images were rendered smoothly without pixelation. It should be capable of handling high-end games if needed. The matte screen appeared slightly dimmer than a typical TV, but the brightness was sufficient and not bothersome. In particular, when used as a digital frame via Samsung's 'Art Store,' the matte display matched the artwork better than expected. By subscribing to the Art Store, users can access around 5,000 digital art pieces.

The sound quality was also adequate. Although I was concerned that the built-in speakers in the thin monitor might compromise the audio, it was more than sufficient for watching movies or dramas, and at times, the sound quality even felt impressive.

At home, I used the device with a wired connection, but it is said to support up to three hours of battery use on its built-in battery without a charger. The charging cable was attached to the floor stand, and simply placing the monitor on the stand connected it for charging. For users who often watch for extended periods outside, the battery life may feel somewhat lacking.

In addition, The Moving Style supports a variety of features. It offers mobile mirroring, allowing it to function like a large tablet when connected to a Galaxy smartphone. Even when the screen is off, the 'Daily Board' feature can display basic information such as weather, news, and memos. With the 'Vision AI Companion' function, users can interact with AI to get restaurant recommendations, content information, and more.

However, the biggest downside was the high price. The launch price of The Moving Style is 1.49 million won. Unlike its earlier reputation for cost-effectiveness, its launch price is higher than that of competing products. Considering the moderate image quality, sound, and size, some may hesitate to purchase at this price. However, for users who value robust durability, a stable operating system (OS), and an all-in-one monitor and stand, this product is likely to be satisfying.
