Kim Dongyeon, Governor of Gyeonggi Province, expressed his relief over the resolution of the Seoul city bus strike, stating, "It is truly fortunate."
On the 15th, Governor Kim posted on his social networking service (SNS), "The labor-management negotiations for Seoul city buses were concluded overnight," adding, "It is truly fortunate that bus operations resumed as normal from the first service today."
He went on to say, "I would like to thank the city officials and bus workers who worked hard to operate alternative routes in Gyeonggi Province during the strike," and promised, "Gyeonggi Province will take full responsibility for ensuring the commuting and travel of our residents."
Previously, the Seoul City Bus Labor Union and the management, represented by the Seoul City Bus Transportation Business Association, reached a final agreement on the mediation proposal for the wage and collective bargaining agreement at around 11:50 p.m. on the 14th.
The labor and management agreed to raise wages by 2.9% for 2025. This is higher than the initial mediation proposal of 0.5%, but lower than the 3.0% increase requested by the union.
