Officially published on October 31 last year, ISO 18136-1:2025 is an international standard that defines standard work processes and information to automate information transfer among multiple organizations within the nuclear power plant ecosystem, covering the entire lifecycle of nuclear power plant construction and operation.

The first part (Part 1) defines the concept of the nuclear power plant ecosystem and presents structured information identifiers for inter-organizational information linkage. The second part (Part 2), which is scheduled to begin this year, will standardize the core work processes and information related to configuration management of nuclear power plant facilities.

This project was carried out as part of the ISO/TC184/SC4/WG3 activities under ISO, with Professor Chung Youngsoo of Myongji University serving as the overall leader. The British Standards Institution (BSI) has adopted ISO 18136-1:2025 as a British standard, reflecting the high level of interest in this standard within the nuclear power industry.

A representative from Myongji University stated, "It is significant that Myongji University is leading the development of international standards in nuclear power plant construction information standard technology, especially as global competition intensifies in the construction of next-generation nuclear power plants and small modular reactors (SMRs)."
