Jinju City Secures Nation’s Only Three Core Green Bio Infrastructures, Strengthening Growth Engine

Successful Attraction of Venture Campus Construction, Industry Promotion Zone,
and Full-Cycle Standardization Hub for Natural Materials

Jinju City in South Gyeongsang Province has secured all three core infrastructure projects of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs’ Green Bio initiative, achieving the nation’s only Green Bio “Triple Crown” and rapidly emerging as a key hub for South Korea’s Green Bio industry.

The city is reportedly the only basic local government (city or county level) to have attracted all three major infrastructure projects promoted by the Ministry: the Green Bio Venture Campus Construction Project, the Green Bio Industry Promotion Zone, and the Natural Materials Full-Cycle Standardization Hub.

This achievement is particularly significant because it brings together the geographical concentration of core infrastructure, the establishment of a full-cycle value chain for Green Bio, and the strategic utilization of regionally specialized resources. As a result, Jinju City has secured a competitive foundation to lead the Green Bio industry.

In particular, while in other regions such as Gangwon and Jeonnam, the Venture Campus and Standardization Hub are distributed across different cities and counties, in Jinju City, all core infrastructure is concentrated within the Munsan-eup Bio Industry Specialized Agro-industrial Complex. This allows for a structure in which locally produced agricultural products are directly connected to research, processing, standardization, and commercialization.

Accordingly, companies will benefit from a “one-stop support environment” that enables them to complete the entire process-from research and startup (Venture Campus), to standardization and demonstration (Natural Materials Standardization Hub), and regulatory exemptions and R&D linkage (Industry Promotion Zone)-all within a single region.

Specifically, once the “Venture Campus” (scheduled for completion in 2027), which supports the discovery of promising venture companies and a full-cycle startup system; the “Natural Materials Standardization Hub” (scheduled for completion in 2030), which provides an international-standard demonstration system from raw materials to prototypes; and the “Industry Promotion Zone” (designated in December 2025), which offers regulatory relaxation, priority access to national R&D, and various incentives, are established, the full-cycle Green Bio value chain-from cultivation and processing to demonstration and commercialization-will be completed in one region.

Furthermore, with the best institutional and physical support in the country for the natural materials and food ingredients sector utilizing Jinju’s specialty crops such as strawberries and Baekse soybeans, the linkage and advancement of local agriculture and the bio industry is expected to accelerate in earnest.

Based on this core infrastructure, the city plans to establish an integrated management system centered on the Jinju Bio Industry Promotion Institute and to generate tangible industrial outcomes that span from attracting companies and conducting research and demonstration, to product development, commercialization, and entry into global markets.

In addition, the city aims to gradually complete a differentiated “Jinju-style Green Bio industry ecosystem” by strengthening incentives for attracting companies, expanding industry-academia-research-government collaborative R&D, discovering demonstration projects utilizing regulatory exemptions, and fostering specialized talent.

Mayor Cho Kyu-il stated, “It is a highly meaningful achievement for a basic local government to secure all three core Green Bio infrastructure projects of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs,” adding, “We will continue to strengthen the Green Bio industry foundation by fostering organic connections among the core infrastructure so that companies can grow and achieve tangible results.”
