This meeting was organized to share the current situation regarding the safety concerns for children's school commute environment, which have recently been raised due to nearby construction around Chasan Elementary School, and to discuss practical countermeasures. The meeting was attended by Chairman Jo Seongdae, Assemblywoman Jeon Hyeyeon, An Jeongsuk, President of the Chasan Elementary School Parents' Association, Kang Dohui, President of the Chasan Elementary School Green Mothers' Association, as well as relevant public officials.
First, the opinions and suggestions of parents regarding the safety of students commuting to and from school, in relation to permits for single-family homes and neighborhood living facilities near Chasan Elementary School, were collected. This was followed by briefings from the Hwado-eup Urban Architecture Division, Architecture Division, and Urban Development Division on the current status of permits and progress to date.
Parents of Chasan Elementary School stated, "We ask that the safety of our children be the top priority when reviewing permit matters near the school, and we request that future updates on related construction progress be shared with us."
In response, the staff from the relevant departments said, "To ensure the safety of children commuting to school, several conditions were imposed during the Urban Planning Committee's review and the permitting process. Moving forward, we will share updates on administrative procedures and construction status with the city council and communicate with parents throughout the process."
Assemblywoman Jeon Hyeyeon, who presided over the meeting, said, "First of all, I would like to thank the parents and the relevant public officials from the executive branch for attending this meeting to discuss practical measures regarding the safety of the school commute environment due to nearby construction at Chasan Elementary School. To ensure that parents can send their children to school with peace of mind, we will thoroughly discuss with the executive branch and carefully address various suggestions, such as measures in case of non-compliance with conditions set by the Urban Planning Committee, the issue of insufficient drop-off and pick-up spaces, and the deployment of crossing guards. We will provide follow-up responses after reviewing these matters in detail."
Chairman Jo Seongdae stated, "Since today's issue is directly related to the safety of our children, I fully understand the concerns of the parents. The city council is well aware of these matters, and I myself am frequently checking the site through road inspections. Going forward, I will work with the executive branch to find the best possible measures to ensure the safety of children commuting to and from school."
