Transition to Carbon-Neutral Public Transportation Expected
Full Operation Begins February 1... Open Daily from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Year-Round
On January 14, Daejeon City held a completion ceremony for the 'Geumgo Hydrogen Charging Station' in Geumgo-dong, Yuseong-gu, which is capable of charging both hydrogen buses and passenger cars.
The 'Geumgo Hydrogen Charging Station' will officially begin operations on February 1. It will be open year-round from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily, and both hydrogen buses and passenger cars will be able to use the charging facilities.
This newly completed hydrogen charging station was established as part of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s “Overseas Hydrogen-Based Public Transportation Infrastructure Technology Development Project,” and has been tailored to suit the domestic public transportation environment. It will provide stable and efficient charging services necessary for operating hydrogen buses.
In particular, the station is equipped with a high-capacity charging facility dedicated to hydrogen buses, features enhanced safety designs, and utilizes a real-time monitoring system. By maximizing operational efficiency, it is expected to serve as a model for the future expansion of hydrogen public transportation infrastructure in Korea.
The charging station is located near the Bongsan-dong city bus depot and the Geumgo-dong Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) depot. It is expected to facilitate the transition to eco-friendly hydrogen buses with established charging infrastructure when aging buses are replaced in the future, and to serve as a hydrogen vehicle charging hub for the northern region of Daejeon.
Park Jehwa, Director of Economic Affairs at Daejeon City, stated, "The Geumgo Hydrogen Charging Station developed hydrogen charging technology through domestic demonstration that can be applied overseas," adding, "We expect it will not only showcase the technological prowess of K-hydrogen to the world, but also make a significant contribution to the expansion of hydrogen bus adoption, the transition to eco-friendly public transportation, and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in the future."
