Sancheong Sinan-myeon, Building the Path to Recovery Together with Residents

Lee Sangwon Calls for Proactive Administration Suited to Current Needs

A meeting was held to facilitate on-site communication with residents affected by flooding in the Sinan-myeon area of Sancheong-gun, Gyeongsangnam-do.

Attending the meeting were officials from Sancheong-gun as well as Assemblyman Lee Sangwon of the Sancheong County Council, who listened directly to the residents' concerns.

This meeting was organized in response to growing dissatisfaction among residents, as restoration has been delayed and confusion over responsibility has arisen, following damage caused by heavy rainfall that resulted in the loss and destruction of farmland, chestnut orchards, and drainage channels.

The affected residents appealed, stating, "A considerable amount of time has passed since the flooding, but there is still no substantial recovery plan in place," and emphasized, "Active involvement from the administration is urgently needed."

In particular, the residents identified the following as the most pressing needs at this time: an accurate on-site survey of the extent of the damage; clarification of administrative responsibility for damage caused by national or public drainage channels; prompt implementation of both emergency and permanent restoration; and the establishment of realistic support measures that take into account the livelihood losses of farming households.

Assemblyman Lee Sangwon stressed, "Flood damage is not a personal issue but a public one," and added, "If the cause of the damage is related to public facilities, the administration must not evade responsibility."

He continued, "Rather than being preoccupied with legal interpretations, what is needed is proactive administration that prioritizes the recovery of residents' daily lives," and stated, "The county council will also work to improve systems and secure budgets."

Assemblyman Lee further emphasized, "The answers are found in the field," and added, "We need swift, field-oriented decision-making and flexible administrative responses, rather than desk-bound bureaucracy."

An official from Sancheong-gun stated that the residents' suggestions would be thoroughly reviewed and that the county would seek possible support measures through coordination with relevant departments and higher-level agencies.

Meanwhile, the affected residents said, "If the county and the county council take action together even now, trust can be restored," and called for continued communication and follow-up measures.
