Five centuries of history, once dormant within paper records, are being vividly brought to life through digital technology. The National Museum of the Joseon Dynasty Annals in Pyeongchang, Gangwon Province, is launching a large-scale project to transform historical records into future-oriented content.

On January 14, the National Museum of the Joseon Dynasty Annals announced plans to establish a "Digital Oesago" within the Odaesan National Park Museum Complex in Pyeongchang-gun, Gangwon Province, by 2028. The project will invest a total of 19.4 billion won to construct a facility with a total floor area of 2,795 square meters. The design will be completed this year, with full-scale construction beginning next year.

The new Digital Oesago will be more than just a storage facility. It will serve as a "data archive" that permanently preserves national treasure-level documentary heritage such as the Annals of the Joseon Dynasty and Uigwe in digital form, while also functioning as an "immersive experience space" where visitors can engage with the content in three dimensions. The museum plans to install large media facades and other features here, expanding history that once existed only as text into an overwhelming visual experience.

This project is powered by the successful launch of the Annals Museum, which opened in May last year. As the first national museum in the southeastern region of Gangwon, it attracted approximately 86,000 visitors within just eight months of opening, quickly becoming a key cultural hub for the area. The Digital Oesago will build on this momentum, serving as a central pillar in the cultural tourism belt that connects Odaesan, Daegwallyeong, and the East Sea region.

On this day, Huh Min, Administrator of the Cultural Heritage Administration, will visit the construction site to inspect the area. He stated, "The Digital Oesago is an innovative hub that simultaneously addresses the preservation and utilization of documentary heritage," adding, "We will spare no effort to support job creation in the region and the revitalization of tourism."
