"76 Gather on Snowy Slopes" Jeonnam Superintendent's Cup Ski Competition Concludes Successfully

76 Student Athletes Compete in Alpine and Cross-Country Events
Winter Sports Gain Popularity in Jeonnam Region

The Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education announced that the 24th Jeonnam Superintendent's Cup Ski Competition was held at Deogyusan Resort and Alpensia Cross-Country Skiing Stadium from January 12 to 13.

A total of 76 student athletes participated in this competition, including 54 in alpine skiing and 22 in cross-country skiing. The number of participants increased significantly compared to previous years, which, according to the provincial office, demonstrates the growing popularity of skiing in the Jeonnam region.

The student athletes who took part in the competition prioritized safety and competed fairly, showcasing the skills they had honed over time on the snowy slopes. The provincial office evaluated that this event provided an opportunity for the student athletes to develop a spirit of challenge and build self-confidence.

To strengthen winter sports, the Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education established winter sports teams at Jeonnam Physical Education Middle and High Schools two years ago, and has since worked to create a stable training environment and a connected development system among schools.

In addition, through cooperation with winter sports development schools and related organizations, the office has laid the foundation for student athletes to continue growing.

These efforts led to improved performances by the Jeonnam team at the 106th National Winter Sports Festival held last year. The office stated that this Superintendent's Cup competition also served as a meaningful stage ahead of the 107th National Winter Sports Festival scheduled for February.

Park Jaehyun, Head of the Physical Education and Health Division, said, "The student athletes who assessed their abilities through this competition have already grown by competing against themselves. I hope they will fully demonstrate the skills they have prepared at the national competition as well."

The Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education plans to continue strengthening support for school sports and student athletes based on the safe and fair operation of competitions.
