Prior to the plenary session, Assemblywoman Lee Jeonghee delivered a five-minute free speech, suggesting that Gumi City should incorporate ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) values into the cultural, tourism, and sports events it hosts and organizes. She proposed the introduction of related policies and systems.
During the plenary session, the council addressed the motion to require the attendance of the mayor of Gumi and relevant officials for municipal inquiries. It also formed a special personnel hearing committee to vet the candidate for CEO of the Gumi Cultural Foundation, electing Assemblyman Kim Youngtae as committee chair.
The main agenda for this session includes the review of 33 items-comprising eight ordinance bills proposed by council members and other items submitted by the executive branch-by four standing committees, including the Council Operations Committee, from January 14 to 15.
Subsequently, from January 16 to 19, the council will receive reports from the executive branch on the key work plans for 2026 in the main chamber.
This reporting session is expected to serve as an opportunity to share Gumi City's policy direction and major tasks for the year, as well as to review the city’s starting point for 2026.
In his opening address, Council Chairman Park Gyosang stated, "2026 is a year when local elections will be held, marking an important period as the 9th Gumi City Council and the 8th popularly elected administration come to a close." He urged, "While thoroughly reviewing the achievements of the four-year term, please do your utmost to ensure that citizen-focused administration remains steadfast as we prepare for the new term beginning in July." He added, "We will focus our legislative efforts on revitalizing livelihoods and the local economy, based on voices from the field."
