"Shot in the Back of the Head at Close Range Like a Summary Execution"... Shock Over Killing of Iranian Female Student in Her 20s

Human rights group: "Shot in the head at close range"
At least 538 killed... Controversy grows over violent crackdown

Claims have emerged that a female university student in her twenties was killed by security forces' gunfire during ongoing anti-government protests in Iran. Human rights organizations have stated that she was shot in the head at close range from behind, raising growing international concern over what is being described as summary execution-level crackdowns by Iranian authorities.

"Shot in the Back of the Head at Close Range Like a Summary Execution"... Shock Over Killing of Iranian Female Student in Her 20s On the 11th (local time), the human rights organization Iran Human Rights (IHR) announced that 23-year-old university student Rubina Aminian was shot in the back of the head at close range and died during an anti-government protest held in Tehran. According to the British daily The Guardian on the 11th (local time), the Norway-based human rights organization Iran Human Rights (IHR) announced that Rubina Aminian, a 23-year-old student majoring in textile and fashion design at Shariati University in Tehran, died on January 8 during the government's crackdown on protests.

IHR, citing testimonies from the bereaved family and witnesses in its statement, claimed, "Aminian was shot in the head by a bullet fired at close range from behind." If this claim is verified, it would indicate that Iranian authorities are effectively carrying out summary executions against their own citizens in the course of suppressing protests. A source close to Aminian's family stated, "Most of the victims were young people between the ages of 18 and 22," and added, "They were killed by government forces who shot them in the head and neck at close range."

Aminian was a Kurdish woman from Marivan in Iran's western Kurdistan Province. It was reported that her mother traveled to Tehran and managed to identify her daughter's body among hundreds of corpses.

Afterwards, the family attempted to return to their hometown to hold a funeral, but IHR claimed that security forces surrounded their home, refused to allow a burial, and forced them to bury the body by the roadside nearby.

IHR explained, "Among the recent bloodshed, Aminian is one of the rare victims whose identity has been officially confirmed."

Meanwhile, the US-based Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) estimated that at least 538 people, including 490 protesters, have been killed and more than 10,600 have been arrested in connection with these protests.
