Working Tirelessly in Sub-Zero Temperatures... Citizen Safety Comes First

Guri City in Gyeonggi Province, led by Mayor Baek Kyung-hyun, launched a large-scale joint snow removal operation between the public and private sectors to ensure the safety of citizens commuting to and from work, following heavy snowfall that continued from January 12 to the early morning of January 13.

At 8 a.m. on January 12, the city issued a preemptive emergency alert in response to the snow forecast and immediately activated its snow removal system. Not only public officials from the city but also personnel from private organizations voluntarily participated in the operation, and a large number of vehicles and equipment were deployed to carry out comprehensive snow removal work.

In particular, the city concentrated its administrative resources on minimizing inconvenience for citizens by spreading de-icing agents and clearing snow, not only on major arterial roads with heavy traffic, but also on steep slopes, side roads, and pedestrian walkways that pose a higher risk of accidents.

City officials and citizens who remained on site until the early morning of January 13, while snowfall continued, worked tirelessly in sub-zero temperatures, motivated by the desire to protect the safety of their families.

Thanks to this swift response, the anticipated traffic chaos during the morning commute did not occur, and traffic flow on major routes has remained smooth.

Baek Kyung-hyun, Mayor of Guri City, stated, "I would like to thank the private organizations and public officials who joined the snow removal efforts for the safety of our citizens despite the cold weather," and added, "We will continue to maintain a proactive response system to sudden heavy snowfall and cold waves, doing our utmost to make Guri City a safe place where citizens can live with peace of mind."
