Just Changing Crops? Failing to Report May Cost You Agricultural Policy Benefits

Bonghwa NAQS Accepts Change Registration for Agricultural Management Entities Cultivating Winter Crops
Until March 13

Farmers are advised to pay close attention, as failing to update their agricultural management entity registration information after changing cultivated crops may result in disadvantages regarding various agricultural policy support programs.

The Bonghwa Office of the National Agricultural Products Quality Management Service (Director: Lee Kyungyeon, hereafter referred to as Bonghwa NAQS) announced that it will operate the "Winter Crop Regular Change Reporting Period" for agricultural management entities cultivating winter crops, from December 16, 2025, to March 13, 2026.

Just Changing Crops? Failing to Report May Cost You Agricultural Policy Benefits

According to the current "Act on Fostering and Supporting Agricultural and Fishery Management Entities," registration as an agricultural management entity is mandatory to receive support such as agricultural and rural-related loans, subsidies, and public direct payments. Furthermore, any changes in registered information, such as cultivated items or farmland status, must be reported through a change registration.

In particular, information on cultivated items serves as essential data for major agricultural policy projects, including the selection of recipients for agricultural material support, enrollment in crop disaster insurance, operation of mutual aid programs, and calculation of direct payments. If the registered information does not match the actual farming situation, this may result in administrative disadvantages such as exclusion from support programs or reduction of direct payments.

Accordingly, since 2025, the NAQS has established regular change reporting periods based on the sowing and cultivation times of major crops, encouraging farmers to voluntarily update their registration, while also conducting checks on compliance.

Currently, the cultivation of winter crops such as garlic, onions, wheat, barley, and forage crops is in full swing, making this period a critical time for updating winter crop registration information.

If agricultural management entities discover changes, such as switching cultivated items or adding or removing farmland, they can update their registration with the local NAQS office via phone, online (Agricultural e-Ji website), mail, or fax.

Lee Kyungyeon, Director of Bonghwa NAQS, stated, "Change registration is the minimum administrative procedure to protect the rights and interests of farmers," adding, "Accurate management of registration information leads to stable agricultural policy support, so we hope for active participation from farm households cultivating winter crops."
