"President Lee's Luncheon Invitation Is a Careless Notion"
Song Eon-seok, Floor Leader of the People Power Party, warned that if the Democratic Party of Korea pushes ahead with the second comprehensive special prosecutor bill at the plenary session scheduled for January 15, "we will mobilize every possible means, including a filibuster (unlimited debate), to oppose it."
At a party policy meeting held at the National Assembly on this day, Floor Leader Song stated, "The second comprehensive special prosecutor bill is essentially an extension of the three major special prosecutor bills and a scheme to turn the local elections into a campaign based on insurrection accusations."

The National Assembly’s Legislation and Judiciary Committee held consecutive meetings of the agenda coordination committee and the full committee the previous day, and, led by the Democratic Party, amended and passed the "Special Prosecutor Appointment Act for Investigating Insurrection, Treason, and State Corruption Allegedly Committed by Yoon Suk-yeol and Kim Keon-hee" (the second comprehensive special prosecutor bill). The Democratic Party plans to table and pass the second comprehensive special prosecutor bill at the plenary session on January 15.
Floor Leader Song pointed out, "The scope of investigation in the three major special prosecutor extension bills now includes alleged collusion by local governments," and criticized, "This is an election scheme to baselessly frame incumbent heads of local governments from the People Power Party as accomplices, thereby inflicting political damage."
He further questioned, "Will Han Byungdo, the new floor leader of the Democratic Party, make his first bill an unilaterally imposed special prosecutor targeting the opposition without bipartisan agreement?" He urged, "Recognizing the opposition as a negotiating partner and as an essential pillar of democracy should not be a fleeting gesture, but rather, I call for an end to endless political strife."
Song also criticized President Lee Jaemyung’s plan to invite the leadership of each political party to the presidential office for a luncheon meeting on January 16. He said, "It is astonishing to suggest a leisurely luncheon with party leaders at a time when an extreme confrontation through filibuster is expected," and added, "If President Lee truly wishes to communicate with the opposition leadership, he should first withdraw the laws that undermine the judiciary and the political system and promise not to proceed with anything lacking bipartisan agreement, rather than simply hosting a luncheon."
