Starting this year, Siheung City in Gyeonggi Province will significantly expand the number of recipients eligible for its scholarship program.
The Siheung Talent Development Foundation announced on January 13 that it will reform its related systems in the new year to broaden the scope of benefits provided by its scholarship program.
The foundation explained that the core of this reform is the simplification of the system, the expansion of eligible recipients, and the diversification of talent selection criteria.
To address the difficulties applicants faced due to the segmentation of application categories, the city has integrated similar categories and comprehensively reorganized the scholarship program structure so that citizens can easily understand it at a glance.
The pool of eligible recipients has also been expanded. While the scholarship program previously focused on middle school, high school, and university students, starting this year, elementary school students will also be included. This change reflects the evolving educational environment, where early career exploration and talent discovery are increasingly important, and aims to support students with potential from an earlier stage.
A new “Skilled Talent Track” has also been established for winners of skills competitions. Through this, the city has expanded the scope of support beyond selection based solely on academic performance, recognizing the value of technical skills and effort in its scholarship program.
A foundation representative stated, “The scholarship program is not just a one-time support, but a starting point for opening up a person’s future,” adding, “We will continue to grow as the Siheung Talent Development Foundation that nurtures talent together with the local community.”
