Enhancing Career Planning and Academic Skills for Local Middle and High School Students
Inje County, Gangwon Province supported local youth in participating in the Seoul National University Learning and Career Mentoring Camp, "We Can Camp," to help strengthen their academic abilities and guide their career planning.
This initiative was designed to provide middle and high school students in the region with high-quality academic mentoring and systematic career exploration opportunities, aiming to boost their motivation for learning and help them develop the ability to plan their own futures. In particular, it holds significance in offering practical academic stimulation and career exploration opportunities to students who, due to local circumstances, have limited access to educational programs at universities in the Seoul metropolitan area.
The Seoul National University We Can Camp was held from January 12 to 14 for three days and two nights at Seoul National University’s Gwanak Campus and the International Youth Center. A total of 28 students, ranging from third-year middle school students (prospective first-year high school students) to second-year high school students from the local area, participated in the camp.
The participating students were pre-selected by each school and took part in the camp, where they gained diverse experiences in learning and career development through close-knit programs with university student mentors.
During the camp, students engaged in mentoring on learning strategies for Korean, English, mathematics, and memorization subjects, learned how to manage each section of the comprehensive student record screening, received one-on-one career mentoring, and participated in a tour of the Seoul National University campus. These activities helped them enhance their practical academic skills and broaden their understanding of potential career paths.
Inje County covered the full cost of participating in the camp, easing the financial burden on students and parents and ensuring that local students could enjoy equal educational opportunities regardless of family circumstances or place of residence.
Through this initiative, it is expected that local youth will be able to directly experience the learning environment of a prestigious university in the Seoul metropolitan area and benefit from the academic know-how of university student mentors, thereby increasing their motivation and confidence in their studies.
An official from Inje County stated, "We hope that supporting the Seoul National University We Can Camp has helped local students clarify their career and academic paths," adding, "We will continue to expand educational support that can be truly felt by both youth and parents in the future."
