For Owners of Over 11,000 Old Diesel Vehicles
"Save Between 6,000 and 48,000 Won"
On January 13, Seongnam City in Gyeonggi Province announced that those who pay the environmental improvement charges, which are usually collected in two installments in March and September, in a lump sum in January will receive a 10% discount.
This benefit applies to owners of approximately 11,000 old diesel vehicles manufactured before July 2012.
The city plans to impose a total of 1.32 billion won in environmental improvement charges on these diesel vehicle owners, covering the period from July 1 of last year to June 30 of this year, to be collected in two installments this year.
If the full amount is paid at once during the annual payment period from January 16 to 31, owners can receive a 10% reduction on the environmental improvement charges, which are calculated based on the vehicle's age, engine displacement, and other factors. This allows them to save between a minimum of 6,000 won and a maximum of 48,000 won.
Applications for annual payment can be submitted online via the Wetax website. Alternatively, applications can be made by phone to the environmental administration team at each district office.
Payment can be made through various methods, including all banks nationwide, Wetax, Internet Giro, credit card, virtual account (NongHyup), and internet banking.
If you have previously paid the environmental improvement charges annually, you will automatically receive the annual payment notice in January without needing to reapply.
The environmental improvement charge is a system that requires those responsible for emitting environmental pollutants to bear part of the cost of improving air quality. The collected funds are used for environmental improvement and conservation projects, as well as research and development of low-emission technologies.
