Gyeonggi Province has identified construction equipment companies that continued to use forklifts and excavators while failing to pay significant amounts of local taxes.
On January 13, Gyeonggi Province announced that it had collected 4.53 billion won in delinquent taxes by conducting joint on-site inspection and collection activities with city and county governments targeting 382 owners of construction equipment who had long overdue local tax payments.
Previously, from March to November of last year, Gyeonggi Province inspected the business sites of 923 delinquent owners of construction equipment and investigated 1,451 pieces of machinery. Of these, 208 units were voluntarily paid off by owners who either changed ownership or whose equipment was too old to be of value for seizure. The remaining 1,243 units were seized.
Of the 1,243 seized units, a total of 4.53 billion won in delinquent taxes was collected through 605 units owned by 382 delinquent taxpayers. In addition, 22 pieces of construction equipment owned by taxpayers with no intention to pay are currently undergoing public auction procedures, and the proceeds from the disposal of these machines will also be included in the tax collection amount in the future.
The remaining 616 units, which have been seized but have not yet resulted in actual tax collection, will be subject to additional collection efforts this year through public auctions and other means.
Noh Seungho, Director of the Tax Justice Division at Gyeonggi Province, stated, "Strengthening delinquent tax collection and uncovering hidden tax sources are key tasks for establishing a fair tax order," adding, "With the goal of 'zero habitual and high-amount delinquency,' we will systematically manage major delinquent taxpayers and continue strong collection efforts."
