Yangju City, LH, and Office of Education Join Hands to Establish 'Self-Directed Learning Center in Public Rental Housing' Suhyun Kang, Mayor of Yangju (center), is signing a business agreement on the 12th in the mayor's office at City Hall with the Korea Land and Housing Corporation Gyeonggi Northern Regional Headquarters and the Dongducheon Yangju Office of Education to establish and operate the 'Yangju Goeup LH14 Complex Self-Directed Learning Center.' This agreement is significant as it represents a differentiated, mutually beneficial educational model. As part of the Ministry of Education's national policy to reduce the burden of private education, it utilizes unused daycare center spaces within apartment complexes to provide students with public learning spaces and residents with everyday cultural and community spaces.

Based on its cooperation with the Korea Land and Housing Corporation Gyeonggi Northern Regional Headquarters, the city promoted a communication-oriented administration during the project's implementation by holding resident briefings and conducting tenant votes to sufficiently gather opinions and secure community consent.

As a result, a regionally integrated educational infrastructure has been established, operating as a community space for residents during the day and as a self-directed learning space for students after school. This has realized a new public education model that combines residential living and education.

An official from Yangju City stated, "We deeply appreciate the Korea Land and Housing Corporation Gyeonggi Northern Regional Headquarters for cooperating in providing the space necessary to establish a differentiated public self-directed learning center model," adding, "We will continue to work closely with the Dongducheon Yangju Office of Education to make Yangju a city where there is no need to worry about private education."

Meanwhile, the Yangju Self-Directed Learning Center is scheduled to officially open in March after undergoing remodeling in February. A learning coordinator dispatched by EBS will participate to provide individualized management and professional mentoring programs for students.
