Gwangyang City to Continue "Paternity Leave Incentive" Support This Year

Up to 300,000 Won Per Month for Three Months

Gwangyang City in South Jeolla Province is providing a "Paternity Leave Incentive" for male employees to encourage their participation in childcare and to alleviate the financial burden associated with taking paternity leave.

The support amount is 300,000 won per month for up to three months. Eligible applicants are male employees who are receiving parental leave benefits under the Employment and Labor Act and have maintained their residence in Gwangyang City for at least one year as of the application date. The child for whom the leave is taken must also have a registered address in Gwangyang City as of the application date, and applications must be submitted within three months of the end of the paternity leave.

Applications can be submitted either in person at the local town, township, or neighborhood office corresponding to the applicant's address, or online via the MY Gwangyang app. Applicants must submit the "Parental Leave Allowance Payment Decision Notice" issued by the Employment Center. This document can be obtained not only by visiting the Employment Center in person but also online through the Work24 or Employment Insurance websites.

A Gwangyang City official stated, "We hope that this incentive will increase fathers' participation in childcare and help promote a culture of work-life balance."

Meanwhile, Gwangyang City has been operating this incentive program since 2024, and it is expected that around 120 people will benefit from it this year.
