INOX Advanced Materials, a specialist in high-performance advanced materials, is showing strong gains. The news that the company has been supplying aerospace-grade advanced materials to the world's largest aerospace company, SpaceX, for three consecutive years appears to be influencing its stock price. The positive impact is attributed to the announcement of this supply, coinciding with the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) approving SpaceX's request for a large-scale additional deployment of its Starlink communications satellites.
As of 9:29 a.m. on January 12, INOX Advanced Materials was trading at 24,550 won, up 10.34% from the previous trading day.
Based on its accumulated expertise in polymer synthesis and precision coating technologies through its IT and semiconductor materials business, INOX Advanced Materials supplies EMI carrier tape, a core material for electromagnetic interference shielding in semiconductor processes, to major semiconductor clients worldwide. Since 2023, SpaceX has been using this material in its rockets and satellites, recognizing the company's technological competitiveness.
Semiconductors for aerospace applications are required to operate reliably under extreme conditions, such as severe temperature fluctuations and high-radiation environments, and therefore demand a high level of electromagnetic interference shielding performance.
A company representative stated, "INOX Advanced Materials' EMI carrier tape maintains stable performance even in the high-temperature environments encountered during launch and space operation, thanks to its excellent heat and chemical resistance."
The representative added, "INOX Advanced Materials will continue to expand the application of its semiconductor material technologies to include materials for AI semiconductor HBM, ASICs, and glass substrates, which are core materials for next-generation packaging."
INOX Advanced Materials plans to further strengthen its leadership in the advanced semiconductor materials market for aerospace and AI applications, and accelerate its transformation into a 'global advanced materials solution provider' that proactively responds to global customer demands.
SpaceX, the space company led by Elon Musk, will increase the total number of second-generation Starlink satellites that can be launched and operated in low Earth orbit to 15,000. The FCC has also authorized SpaceX to upgrade the performance of its satellites and operate them across five frequency bands. In addition, the FCC has exempted SpaceX from previous requirements that limited service capacity expansion.
Brendan Carr, FCC Commissioner, stated, "The FCC's approval is a game changer that enables next-generation services," adding, "By approving 15,000 new and advanced satellites, the FCC has paved the way for SpaceX to provide unprecedented satellite broadband capabilities, enhance competition, and ensure that no region is left behind."
