Chuncheon City to Provide Electric Bicycle Purchase Subsidy of Up to 500,000 Won

Chuncheon City in Gangwon Province (Mayor Yuk Donghan) is taking steps to ease the financial burden on citizens purchasing electric bicycles as part of efforts to promote carbon neutrality in daily life.

Starting from January 13 until February 3, Chuncheon City will recruit 100 recipients for its 2026 electric bicycle purchase subsidy program. The subsidy covers 50% of the purchase price, up to a maximum of 500,000 won, and is limited to one person per household.

Eligible applicants must be Chuncheon residents aged 18 or older who have been registered and living in the city for at least one year. The electric bicycle must be a PAS (pedal-assist) type and purchased from a local retailer. Electric bicycles with throttle or combined PAS-throttle systems are not eligible. Additionally, those who have previously received an electric bicycle purchase subsidy from 2022 to 2025 are not allowed to apply.

Applications can be submitted through the banner on the Chuncheon City electric bicycle purchase subsidy program website, and the selection will be made by lottery on February 10.

The electric bicycle purchase subsidy program has been well received since its launch in 2022, as it aims to diversify transportation options and promote the use of eco-friendly bicycles.

A Chuncheon City official stated, "Electric bicycles are a means of transportation that consider both citizens' health and the environment," adding, "We will continue to implement policies that encourage the use of eco-friendly transportation options."
