Synergy of Design and Project Management Expertise
Challenging Overseas Markets with an Integrated Package
HanmiGlobal, the leading construction project management (PM) company in Korea, has entered into a strategic alliance with Korea Electric Power Technology, a company specializing in nuclear power plant design and engineering, and Turner & Townsend, a global PM specialist based in the United Kingdom, to actively target overseas nuclear power markets.
On the 12th, HanmiGlobal announced that it had signed a three-party strategic alliance agreement reflecting these details. PM refers to overseeing all aspects of large-scale construction projects on behalf of the client, including design review, process management, and quality supervision.
This agreement follows the memorandum of understanding on nuclear power business cooperation signed between HanmiGlobal and Korea Electric Power Technology in June of last year. At that time, the two companies agreed to seek joint business opportunities in domestic and international nuclear power markets. With the addition of Turner & Townsend, a leading nuclear project management firm from the UK, a "triangular partnership" has now been established.

Through this strategic alliance, the three companies plan to combine their respective strengths to maximize competitiveness in the global nuclear power market. Based on its experience managing over 3,200 construction projects in 66 countries, HanmiGlobal entered the nuclear power market last year by winning the contract to manage the continued operation (life extension) project for Unit 1 of the Cernavoda Nuclear Power Plant in Romania.
Korea Electric Power Technology is the only comprehensive nuclear power plant design firm in Korea, having designed the Hanbit Nuclear Power Plant in Korea and the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in the UAE. Turner & Townsend is a global company with 247 subsidiaries in 62 countries and is currently providing consulting for the construction of the large-scale "Hinkley Point C" nuclear power plant promoted by the UK government, as well as for the next-generation Small Modular Reactor (SMR) projects.
With the collaboration of these three companies, it is now possible to provide an integrated service that covers "design, project management, and cost and schedule management" in one package. For overseas nuclear power clients, this means they can entrust the entire project process to a single provider without having to sign separate contracts with multiple companies.
Going forward, the three companies plan to exchange professional personnel and jointly develop project management systems utilizing advanced technologies such as digital twin (technology that replicates physical facilities in a virtual space) and artificial intelligence (AI). Their cooperation will not be limited to new nuclear power plant construction, but will also expand to cover the entire nuclear power plant lifecycle, including Small Modular Reactors (SMRs), decommissioning of aging nuclear plants, and construction of radioactive waste disposal facilities.
