Realmeter-Energy Economy Poll
Disapproval Rating Drops to 30% Range for First Time in Two Months
Impact of Korea-China Summit and Record KOSPI High
President Lee Jaemyung's approval rating for his administration has risen for the second consecutive week, reaching the mid-to-high 50% range. The disapproval rating has dropped to the 30% range for the first time in two months.
According to a public opinion poll released by Realmeter on January 12 (conducted at the request of Energy Economy News from January 5 to 9, targeting 2,530 adults aged 18 or older nationwide via wireless phone ARS, with a 95% confidence level, a margin of error of ±1.9 percentage points, and a response rate of 4.2%), President Lee's approval rating for state affairs stood at 56.8%, up 2.7 percentage points from the previous week. This marks a two-week upward trend. The disapproval rating dropped by 3.6 percentage points to 37.8%. This is the first time since the second week of November last year that the disapproval rating for President Lee's administration has fallen into the 30% range.
Realmeter analyzed that "the successful Korea-China summit, the KOSPI reaching a record high of 4,600 points, and visible achievements in the economic and diplomatic sectors served as the main drivers for the rise in approval ratings."
A closer look at the detailed survey results shows that support improved among groups that had previously shown weaker approval for President Lee. In Daegu and North Gyeongsang Province, the approval rating increased by 6.7 percentage points (from 41.3% to 48.0%), and among those aged 70 and older, it rose by 7.6 percentage points (from 47.5% to 55.1%). The approval rating among moderates also climbed by 4.4 percentage points (from 54.6% to 59.0%).
In terms of party support (conducted at the request of Energy Economy News from January 8 to 9, targeting 1,006 adults aged 18 or older nationwide via wireless phone ARS, with a 95% confidence level, a margin of error of ±3.1 percentage points, and a response rate of 4.1%), the Democratic Party of Korea's support rose by 2.1 percentage points from the previous week to 47.8%.
