Completion of National Sports Center and Multipurpose Indoor Gymnasiums

Yanggu County in Gangwon Province has completed the construction of the Comprehensive Sports Town, which includes the National Sports Center and a multipurpose indoor gymnasium, and will hold a completion ceremony at 2:00 p.m. on January 13 at the site in Godae-ri, Yanggu-eup.

The Yanggu Comprehensive Sports Town project was launched to further strengthen Yanggu County's competitive advantage in sports marketing, modernize sports facilities, and create a pleasant and safe environment for sports activities. The aim is to expand the base of local sports participation and increase residents' income. This project was carried out in phases over approximately five years, from 2020 to 2025.

The county invested a total project cost of approximately 34.4 billion won, including 11 billion won from the national government, 2.2 billion won from the provincial government, and 21.2 billion won from the county's own budget. With this, the county constructed one National Sports Center and two multipurpose indoor gymnasiums, totaling about 9,400 square meters in gross floor area.

The National Sports Center is equipped with a swimming pool, fitness room, small library, studio room, gym, showers, and various convenience facilities, allowing residents to enjoy both health improvement and leisure activities in their daily lives. The multipurpose indoor gymnasiums are designed to accommodate a variety of indoor sports competitions, recreational sports activities, and events, and are expected to be highly versatile.

Once the Comprehensive Sports Town is fully operational, not only will residents' access to sports activities be greatly improved, but the revitalization of sports marketing through training camps and hosting various sports competitions is also expected to have a positive ripple effect on the local economy. Yanggu County plans to actively incorporate residents' feedback in facility operations, aiming to create a community-centered sports space that everyone can enjoy and be satisfied with.

In addition, Yanggu County plans to construct an additional Comprehensive Sports Park in connection with the Sports Town by 2027. The Comprehensive Sports Park will be developed in stages, featuring two soccer fields, one baseball field, parking lots, and various infrastructure facilities, to create conditions for a healthy lifestyle for local residents. The county also aims to invigorate the local economy through the expansion of sports marketing and sports infrastructure.

Imi Sook, Head of the Economic and Sports Division, stated, "The Comprehensive Sports Town is a health and sports hub that any resident can easily use in their daily life, and it is a key infrastructure that will elevate Yanggu County's sports marketing to the next level. We will continue to enhance resident satisfaction and create a vibrant sports environment through systematic facility management and a variety of programs."

Meanwhile, the completion ceremony will be attended by about 50 people, including Yanggu County Mayor Seo Heungwon, Yanggu County Council Chairman Jeong Changsu, and heads of various institutions and organizations. The event will include a tape-cutting ceremony, progress report, congratulatory remarks, and a tour of the facilities.
