Paju City and 25th Division Lift Military Facility Protection on Additional 1.5 km²... "Equivalent to 215 Soccer Fields"

Paju City Eases Military Regulations Again
Signs Administrative Delegation MOU with 25th Infantry Division
Permit Process Significantly Shortened by Omitting Military Consultation

Paju City in Gyeonggi Province announced on January 12 that it had signed a memorandum of understanding on January 9 with the 25th Infantry Division regarding the administrative delegation of military facility protection zones, covering an area equivalent to 215 soccer fields (1.5 km²), following a similar agreement in October of last year.

'Administrative delegation' is a system in which the authority for permits related to new construction or expansion of buildings within military facility protection zones is delegated to local governments. With this agreement, the total area under administrative delegation within Paju City has expanded to 68.70 km².

The newly designated areas are as follows: ▲ Paju Contents World General Industrial Complex area (1 km² / 20 meters delegated), ▲ 333, Ungdam-ri, Beobwon-eup area (0.15 km² / 7 meters delegated), and ▲ 110, Ungdam-ri, Beobwon-eup area (0.35 km² / 7 meters delegated).

In these areas, as long as buildings are constructed below the designated height limits, construction can proceed with only Paju City's own approval, without separate consultations with military units. This is expected to shorten the permit process and reduce land development costs.

Kim Kyeongil, Mayor of Paju, stated, "I would like to thank the 25th Infantry Division for making this forward-looking decision," adding, "We will continue to work closely with the I Corps and its subordinate divisions to resolve long-standing regulations in border areas and accelerate urban development."

Meanwhile, detailed parcel numbers for the administrative delegation areas can be found in the announcements and news section of the Paju City website, and the status of military facility protection zones for each parcel can also be easily checked on the Land-eum (Land-e) website.
