Seongnam City in Gyeonggi Province announced on January 12 that it has finalized the name of the new public library being built in the Bundang Pangyo Daejang District as "Pangyo Daejang Library," with the goal of opening in July.

The name was selected by reflecting the opinions of local residents. From December 5 to 19 last year, the city conducted an online survey on four candidate names for the library, targeting residents of five neighborhoods near the Pangyo Daejang District. Out of 771 respondents, 577 people, or 75%, chose "Pangyo Daejang Library."

Pangyo Daejang Library is being constructed on city-owned land at 187-4 Daejang-dong (near Daejang Elementary School), covering 1,863 square meters, with a total floor area of 5,151 square meters and two basement levels and two above-ground floors. The total project cost is 28.9 billion won, including 5.6 billion won from national and provincial funds, and construction began in April 2020.

The city plans to develop Pangyo Daejang Library as a lifestyle cultural complex that integrates reading, cultural, and learning functions.

To achieve this, in addition to reading and knowledge information spaces such as a children's and family reading room, a general reference room, and a periodicals room, a lifestyle culture center will also be established.

Pangyo Daejang Library is scheduled for completion in May, after which it will undergo a final inspection before opening.

To ensure smooth preparations for the opening, the city formed a task force team in January this year to establish organizational operation plans, expand the library collection, and design programs.

Next month, a town hall meeting will be held at Daejang Elementary School to share the current status of the library's development and future operational plans with residents.

A city official stated, "Pangyo Daejang Library will be a place to meet people through books and a public facility where reading, culture, and learning can be enjoyed as part of daily life. It will serve as a central space to revitalize the local community and support a richer life for local residents."

Once Pangyo Daejang Library opens, the total number of public libraries in Seongnam City will increase to 22.
