The police have launched a compulsory investigation into Kang Sunwoo, an Independent member of the National Assembly, his former chief secretary, and Kim Kyung, a member of the Seoul Metropolitan Council, over allegations of nomination bribery.
The Public Crime Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency announced that, starting at 5:30 p.m. on January 11, it has been conducting search and seizure operations at the residences of Assemblyman Kang, former chief secretary Nam, and Councilor Kim, who are all suspected of bribery.
Assemblyman Kang is accused of receiving 100 million won from Councilor Kim through former chief secretary Nam in exchange for a nomination ahead of the 2022 local elections.
