Joint Speech Session for the Democratic Party Supreme Council By-Election
Assemblyman Lee Geontae (Bucheon-byeong, Gyeonggi Province), who is running as a candidate for the Democratic Party of Korea's Supreme Council, appealed for support on January 11, saying, "Through direct, clear, and party-government hotlines, I will become the Supreme Council member for President Lee Jaemyung and for each and every party member."
At the joint speech session for Supreme Council by-election candidates held in the main conference hall of the National Assembly Members' Office Building that afternoon, Assemblyman Lee stated, "I protected President Lee against political prosecutors. I led the impeachment verdict and the liquidation of rebellion at the forefront of the Democratic Party, and spearheaded prosecutorial and judicial reforms," adding, "With a greater sense of mission and responsibility, I will work together with my fellow party members."
First, Assemblyman Lee emphasized his pro-Lee Jaemyung stance, saying, "As the Daejang-dong defense attorney, special advisor to President Lee when he was party leader, member of the National Assembly's Legislation and Judiciary Committee, and legal spokesperson for the Democratic Party, I have protected President Lee more closely than anyone else. Now, I will become the Supreme Council member who communicates with President Lee Jaemyung and the Blue House."
He continued, "Shouldn't President Lee and the Democratic Party unite to completely liquidate rebellion and build a new Republic of Korea? Prosecutorial and judicial reforms must be accomplished," adding, "If I become a Supreme Council member, I will complete the liquidation of rebellion and take the lead in creating a new Republic of Korea."

He repeatedly called for the prosecution to drop charges in President Lee's eight cases, including the Daejang-dong case, the Ssangbangwool remittance to North Korea case, the perjury coaching case, and the Public Official Election Act case. He said, "President Lee Jaemyung is leading the government while bearing the unjust stigma of eight cases fabricated as political retaliation indictments by Yoon Sukyeol's political prosecutors. Our Democratic Party will unite and ensure the charges against President Lee are dropped. We will also push for a parliamentary investigation into the political prosecutors' fabricated indictments."
Regarding internal party issues such as party member sovereignty, the June 3 local elections, and nominations, he promised, "I will make sure that party members do not just passively vote on the outcomes given to them, but that their opinions and the voices of their regions are actually reflected in major decision-making. I will provide institutional improvements and sufficient support to those who have upheld the Democratic Party's banner in challenging regions."
On party management, he asserted, "I will take responsibility and provide effective support so that every committee can fulfill its role. I will establish the Democratic Party on a firmer foundation," adding, "I will make sure that each and every party member feels proud of the Democratic Party."
