Russia and Ukraine Exchange Overnight Drone Strikes... Multiple Injuries and Energy Facility Damage Reported

Russia and Ukraine exchanged drone attacks overnight, resulting in multiple injuries and damage to facilities.

According to dpa and other sources on January 10 (local time), Oleksandr Hanza, Governor of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast in Ukraine, stated that three people were injured in the region on the night of the 9th due to a Russian drone attack.

A fire broke out at an energy facility, causing disruptions to the power supply.

Russia reported that in the Volgograd region, home to the country's largest oil refinery in the south, a fire broke out at an oil storage facility after it was hit by debris from a Ukrainian drone.

Ukraine has recently been focusing its attacks on energy infrastructure in an effort to cut off the financial resources of the Russian military.

Ukraine and Russia each announced that, using their own air defense systems, they shot down 27 and 59 enemy drones, respectively, overnight.

Military tensions between the two countries have been escalating recently, following Russia's use of the hypersonic Oreshnik missile.

On the 9th, Russia launched airstrikes on Kyiv, the Ukrainian capital, and the major western city of Lviv, deploying the Oreshnik missile and other weapons. The Oreshnik missile, which can reach speeds of Mach 10, is reportedly impossible to intercept with Ukraine's current air defense systems.

The United Nations Security Council will hold an emergency meeting on the 12th to discuss Russia's large-scale airstrikes.
