Rallies Held Across Seoul: "Impeach Cho Hee-dae" vs. "CCP Out"

On Saturday, the 10th, progressive and left-wing groups held rallies at various locations across downtown Seoul.

Candlelight Action held a rally at around 4 p.m. near the Supreme Court in Seocho-gu, Seoul, calling for the impeachment of Supreme Court Chief Justice Cho Hee-dae.

Participants held signs reading "Impeach Cho Hee-dae" and "Dissolve the People Power Party," and shouted, "Give the maximum legal sentence to the perpetrators of insurrection."

There was also criticism regarding the postponement of the sentencing recommendation for former President Yoon Suk-yeol, who has been indicted on charges of leading an insurrection, from the 9th to the 13th. Kim Jiseon, co-representative of Candlelight Action, pointed out, "It's not even the sentencing, so why is it so difficult just to recommend a sentence?"

The Joint Action to Stop Trump’s Threat held a rally in front of the KT Building in Gwanghwamun, condemning the U.S. airstrike on Venezuela.

Yang Kyungsu, chairman of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions, criticized, "The United States, which used to wage proxy wars through its lackeys and agents, is now starting to take to the streets with weapons in hand like local thugs."

In front of Donghwa Duty Free Shop in Jongno-gu, the Liberty Unification Party, led by Pastor Jun Kwang-hoon of Sarang Jeil Church, held the "Gwanghwamun National Rally for the Restoration of Free Korea." Participants waved the Korean and American flags, chanting slogans such as "CCP (Chinese Communist Party) Out" and "Impeachment Null and Void."

Pastor Jun, who has been identified as being behind the disturbance at the Seoul Western District Court and is the subject of an arrest warrant, commented on his upcoming pretrial detention hearing at the Seoul Western District Court on the 13th, claiming, "Because it makes no sense, there is almost a 100% chance I will be released without detention."
