Main Fire in Uiseong Wildfire Contained in Three Hours... Nighttime Efforts to Extinguish Remaining Embers

Sudden Snowfall Aids in Fire Suppression

Following a major wildfire last spring, the main fire in Uiseong County, North Gyeongsang Province, which broke out on January 10, was brought under control within three hours.

Kim Jusu, the governor of Uiseong County, stated, "The main fire was extinguished around 6 p.m., as the wildfire suppression helicopters were withdrawn. We plan to deploy personnel overnight to clear any remaining embers."

The Korea Forest Service explained that the sudden snowfall helped extinguish the main fire.

Earlier that day, at around 3:15 p.m., an unidentified fire broke out at the peak of a 150-meter-high hill in Bibong-ri, Uiseong-eup, Uiseong County, North Gyeongsang Province.

Authorities issued a Level 2 response as the flames, driven by strong winds, spread toward Andong. They mobilized personnel and equipment to carry out firefighting operations.
