Up to 800,000 Won Support for Cancer and Cerebrovascular Screenings
1,865 Participants to Be Selected by January 16
Gijang County (Governor Jeong Jongbok) is accepting applications for the "2026 Gijang County Resident Health Promotion Program" until January 16, 2026.
The Gijang County Resident Health Promotion Program is designed to support health examination costs in order to detect diseases early among residents and strengthen a prevention-focused health management system. In partnership with the Dongnam Institute of Radiological & Medical Sciences, the program provides financial support for either comprehensive cancer screenings or cerebrovascular examinations.
A total of 1,865 participants will be selected through this recruitment. Residents who wish to participate can apply in person at the administrative welfare center of their local town or township during the application period. The final selection results will be released on the Gijang County website at the end of February 2026.
Among the eligible applicants, those aged 65 or older, national merit recipients, recipients of the National Basic Livelihood Security Program, individuals in the second-lowest income bracket, single-parent families, and registered persons with disabilities will receive the full examination cost of 800,000 won. Other residents aged 40 or older will receive 700,000 won in support and must pay the remaining 100,000 won themselves.
To be eligible, applicants must be residents of Gijang County as of the announcement date and have continuously lived in the county for at least three years, and be aged 40 or older. For those who relocated due to nuclear power plant construction, applicants must have had their resident registration in Gori, Hyoam, or Gilcheon-ri of Jangan-eup before May 31, 2003, and have lived there continuously for at least three years, and be aged 40 or older. However, those who have already received examination cost support through this program since 2010 are not eligible.
Foreign nationals are also eligible to apply if they have been registered as foreign residents in Gijang County and have stayed for at least three years, and are aged 40 or older and married to a Korean national.
Governor Jeong Jongbok stated, "The Gijang County Resident Health Promotion Program aims to help residents maintain a healthy daily life through early detection of diseases," adding, "We will continue to strengthen our prevention- and management-centered health management system."
Over the past 16 years, Gijang County has invested approximately 1 billion won annually from the county budget, providing a total of 15.5 billion won in health examination support, benefiting more than 24,000 residents to date.
