National Assembly Appoints Song Kiheon of Ruling Party as Chair of Special Committee on Political Reform for Local Election Redistricting

Nine from Democratic Party, Eight from People Power Party, One from Cho Kuk Innovation Party
To Discuss Institutionalization of Regional Committees and More

On January 9, the personnel appointments for the National Assembly's Special Committee on Political Reform, which will discuss matters such as the redistricting plan for the upcoming June 3 local elections, were completed.

According to political sources, the ruling and opposition parties formed the special committee with nine members from the Democratic Party of Korea, eight from the People Power Party, and one from the Cho Kuk Innovation Party.

Song Kiheon, a member of the Democratic Party, will serve as the chair of the Special Committee on Political Reform, while Yoon Kunyoung will act as the secretary from the ruling party. The secretary representing the People Power Party will be determined at a later date.

In addition to Song and Yoon, the Democratic Party appointed Kim Hankyu, Yoon Junbyung, Lee Haesik, Kim Moonsu, Song Jaebong, Lee Sangsik, and Lim Mi-ae as committee members. From the People Power Party, Park Deokheum, Kim Seungsoo, Kim Eunhye, Park Sooyoung, Bae Junyoung, Seo Iljun, Cho Junghoon, and Kang Myunggu will participate as committee members. From the non-negotiating group, Jeong Chunseong of the Cho Kuk Innovation Party was appointed.

The Special Committee on Political Reform was established to discuss and deliberate on matters such as the redistricting of local council electoral districts following the Constitutional Court's decision of nonconformity with the Public Official Election Act on October 23 of last year, the institutionalization of regional committees, and other issues agreed upon by the secretaries of the ruling and opposition parties. The committee's activities will continue until the local elections.
