Jeonbuk Province has become the first local government in the country to launch generative AI competency training for all its employees, in line with the government's AI transformation policy.

On January 9, Jeonbuk Province announced that it had successfully completed the "Generative AI Competency Enhancement Training" for senior public officials at the bureau and division director level or above, a program that has been in place since last year.

This training was conducted with a practical focus, aiming to strengthen digital leadership among senior officials and enable them to use AI as a practical tool in the decision-making process.

Out of 169 senior officials at grade 4 or above, 159 completed the program across four sessions, resulting in a completion rate of 94%. The training achieved an overwhelming satisfaction rate of 96.4% and an instructor satisfaction rate of 97.3%, demonstrating its effectiveness.

Notably, the province directly linked the training to its "in-house developed generative AI system," which was officially launched on December 22. This integration ensured both security and efficiency, allowing public officials to immediately apply AI to administrative tasks such as document preparation and policy review without concerns about data leakage.

This year, Jeonbuk Province plans to significantly expand the training to include all ranks and affiliated organizations by the first half of the year. By the end of June, the province aims to complete customized training by rank and job function for a total of approximately 2,700 people, including 360 team leaders, 1,400 working-level staff, and 950 employees of public enterprises and affiliated institutions.

One division head who participated in the training shared, "The quality of decision-making has improved as policy alternative analysis has become faster, and it has also been a great help in practical tasks such as preparing disaster response scenarios," highlighting the positive changes.

Kim Kwanyoung, Governor of Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province, emphasized, "In the era of AI transformation, AI is not an option but an essential tool for public officials. Through the organic integration of training and systems, we will establish a standard model of public innovation in Korea, where AI leads to tangible administrative achievements."
