Scheffler Chooses Sony Open to Start 2026 PGA Tour Season
Missed Last Year Due to Hand Injury After Five Consecutive Appearances
Rose, Burns, Cantlay, and Griffin Also in the Field
World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler (USA) will begin his new season at the end of this month.
He will compete in the American Express, a PGA Tour event held in La Quinta, California, from January 22 for four days (local time). The American Express tournament organizers announced Scheffler's participation via social media on January 8. This is the second PGA Tour event of the year.

Scheffler had competed in the American Express for five consecutive years through 2024, but missed last year due to a lingering hand injury. In addition to Scheffler, Justin Rose (England), Sam Burns, Patrick Cantlay, and Ben Griffin (all USA) will also participate in the tournament. World No. 2 Rory McIlroy (Northern Ireland) will compete in the DP World Tour Dubai Invitational, held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for four days starting January 15.
The 2026 PGA Tour season will kick off with the Sony Open in Hawaii, which begins on January 15. This will be followed by the American Express, Farmers Insurance Open, WM Phoenix Open, AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, Genesis Invitational, and Cognizant Classic.
