Discussion on Appropriate Safety Management Costs
Proposals for Incentives to Promote Smart Safety Equipment

Seoul Housing and Communities Corporation (SH) and the Seoul Chapter of the Construction Association of Korea announced on January 9 that they have discussed directions for institutional improvements to establish smart safety technologies as a standard practice.

SH held the "Final Report Meeting on Research for Proper Reflection of Safety Management Costs and Promotion of Smart Safety Equipment Utilization" at its headquarters the previous day.

This research focused on identifying effective institutional improvement measures that can be applied on-site, in line with the government's strengthened safety policy stance. The Korea Research Institute for Construction Policy has been conducting the study from September of last year through this month.

During the report meeting, the research team presented an analysis of the current status of safety management costs and proposed measures to institutionalize smart safety equipment. First, they suggested appropriate management cost levels for labor and facility safety input costs, which are currently applied at construction sites. Various incentives were also proposed to promote the use of smart safety equipment, including a legislative notice to create a new category for safety management costs as an additional construction expense.

SH and the Seoul Chapter of the Construction Association of Korea plan to apply the proposals derived from this research when improving systems and establishing future guidelines.

Hwang Sangha, President of SH, stated, "This research is significant in that it sought institutional solutions to address the challenges of executing safety management costs and the barriers to technology adoption faced on-site," adding, "We will thoroughly review the proposed recommendations to further enhance the SH-style safety management guidelines."
