Jeonnam Province announced that the Korea Electronics Technology Institute (KETI) LVDC Certification Support Center, located in the Naju Innovation Industrial Complex, has been designated by the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment as a "high-efficiency equipment certification testing institution" for energy storage systems (ESS) and electric vehicle (EV) charging devices.
LVDC (Low Voltage Direct Current) is a next-generation power technology that delivers electricity in direct current form without alternating current conversion, thereby improving energy efficiency.
This designation marks the first case in the Honam region and is seen as national recognition of Jeonnam’s efforts to foster new energy industries based on direct current power, a key policy focus for the province.
With this designation, the LVDC Certification Support Center will now handle all processes for high-efficiency certification of ESS and EV charging devices, including official testing, performance verification, and issuance of test reports.
As a result, a foundation has been established for Jeonnam to provide one-stop testing and certification services, which were previously concentrated in the Seoul metropolitan area.
In particular, energy companies in the Jeonnam and Gwangju regions are expected to benefit from reduced travel and waiting times for testing, shortened development periods, lower certification costs, and accelerated product commercialization. This is also expected to significantly strengthen the industrial competitiveness of Jeonnam, where companies and demonstration projects related to renewable energy, ESS, and EV charging infrastructure are concentrated.
The high-efficiency certification system is a core government initiative that objectively verifies the energy-saving performance and reliability of equipment to promote the market expansion of high-efficiency products.
The LVDC Certification Support Center is equipped with the necessary testing facilities and specialized personnel to conduct high-efficiency certification, including assessments of rated and partial load efficiency, conversion loss characteristics, and performance under various operating conditions. It also serves as a hub for demonstrating and industrializing low-voltage direct current (LVDC)-based power conversion and distribution technologies.
Jeonnam Province plans to use this designation as an opportunity to strengthen its full-cycle support system for energy technology-from research and demonstration to certification and commercialization-and to accelerate the development of strategic industries in line with national energy policies, such as distributed energy, direct current-based power infrastructure, and the expansion of electric vehicles.
A Jeonnam Province official stated, "The designation of this high-efficiency certification testing institution is a tangible achievement of Jeonnam’s energy industry policies," and added, "We will continue to enhance the testing and certification infrastructure and expand support for companies to establish Jeonnam as a core hub for the energy industry."
