Former Motown Records Chairman Appointed
Hybe announced on January 9 that it has appointed Ethiopia Habte Mariam, former Chairman of Motown Records, as Head of the Music Division at Hybe America.
As Head of the Music Division, Habte Mariam will oversee artist discovery, production (A&R), and artist development across all Hybe America labels, leading the company’s mid- to long-term growth strategy. He will focus on identifying new business opportunities at the intersection of music, culture, and fandom, while also working to strengthen the status and influence of QC Media Holdings, Hybe America’s hip-hop specialty label.
Habte Mariam is an experienced executive in the music industry, having spent nearly 20 years at Universal Music Group. During his tenure as Chairman of Motown Records, he contributed to expanding the global presence of artists such as Migos and Lil Baby. Previously, at Universal Music Publishing and other roles, he supported the recruitment and growth of major artists including Justin Bieber and Chris Brown.
