Gokseong County in South Jeolla Province announced on January 9 that it successfully held the "Basic Income Vision Declaration Ceremony for Rural Areas Pilot Project" at the Gokseong Leisure and Culture Center on January 7.
The vision declaration ceremony was organized as an official announcement of a new policy vision aimed at enhancing the security of residents' lives and preparing for the realities faced by rural areas, such as population decline and super-aging demographics.
The rural basic income initiative promoted by Gokseong County is a project that will provide county residents with 150,000 won per month in local gift certificates from February 2026 to December 2027. The goal is to stimulate local consumption, establish a virtuous economic cycle, and inject tangible vitality into the stagnant local economy.
Additionally, the county plans to actively expand various services that support residents' stable lives based on basic income, create new opportunities for entrepreneurship, and foster an environment that attracts young people back to the region, so that residents can experience real changes in their daily lives.
During the event, the county informed residents about the specific details of the basic income project and declared two slogans: "Responding to Local Extinction! Realizing Basic Income and a Basic Society" and "A Place Where People Stay, and the Region Revives: Gokseong."
At the end of the event, a county-wide vision performance was held with residents, serving as a venue to build consensus on the rural basic income initiative and bringing the event to a close.
A county official stated, "Through the rural basic income pilot project, we hope that Gokseong County will take the lead in paving the way toward a society where every resident is guaranteed at least a minimum level of stable living."
