Trump Mentions Meeting on Truth Social
On January 8 (local time), U.S. President Donald Trump highlighted the achievements of his administration's investments, mentioning his meeting with the CEO of Lipbutane Intel.
On his self-created social networking service, Truth Social, he stated, "Just had an excellent meeting with the CEO of Lipbutane," making this announcement.
He also introduced Intel's new product, saying, "Intel has just launched the first 'sub-2 nanometer (nm) central processing unit (CPU) processor' designed, manufactured, and packaged in the United States." This was unveiled at 'CES 2026,' which opened this week in Las Vegas.
President Trump further boasted, "The U.S. government is proud to have become an Intel shareholder. Through our stake, we have already generated tens of billions of dollars in profits for the American people in just four months. We have made a great deal, and so has Intel."
He emphasized, "The United States has decided to bring cutting-edge chip manufacturing back to America, and that is exactly what is happening now."
Previously, in August, the U.S. government became the largest shareholder of Intel by securing about a 10% stake in the American semiconductor company using funds raised through the Chips Act and other sources. At the time, Intel was struggling due to weakened semiconductor competitiveness.
According to U.S. financial media outlet CNBC, Intel's stock price has risen 75% since the government investment was announced last year. The value of the government's stake has also surpassed 18 billion dollars.
However, CNBC noted, "Intel has pledged to invest tens of billions of dollars to build a semiconductor foundry business in the United States, but, like AMD and Nvidia, it still relies on Taiwan's TSMC for production."
Meanwhile, after the market closed on this day, Intel was trading at 41.64 dollars, up 1.29% from the previous session. During regular trading hours, the stock closed down 3.57% amid a broad decline in technology stocks such as artificial intelligence (AI).
