Six Environmental Officers Deployed
Active Until 3 a.m.
Dongjak-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Park Ilha) announced on January 9 that the evening cleaning task force, which has been operating since November last year in areas with a high concentration of commercial establishments, has received a positive response.
The evening cleaning task force is collecting illegal dumping and cleaning the streets around Noryangjin Academy District (Manyang-ro). Provided by Dongjak-gu.
The evening cleaning task force is composed of six environmental officers, divided into two teams. Each day, from 6:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. the following morning, they patrol two designated intensive management zones. The task force is responsible for collecting cigarette butts and illegal advertisements, removing illegally dumped waste, maintaining trash bins, and handling cleaning-related civil complaints.
The intensive management zones include eight areas densely populated with commercial establishments: the alleyway shopping district near Sadang Station, the Namseong Sagye Market area near Isu Station, the alley market near Namseong Station, the area around Chung-Ang University, the Noryangjin academy district (Manyang-ro), the Seongdae Market area near Sindaebang Samgeori, the commercial area near Boramae Station, and the Boramae Town area.
These areas have long suffered from the chronic problem of large amounts of garbage piling up rapidly in the evening, when crowds gather after the environmental officers’ daytime work is finished. To minimize gaps in cleaning, the district hired new environmental officers and formed the evening cleaning task force to deploy additional personnel.
Park Ilha, Mayor of Dongjak-gu, stated, "Cleaner streets will bring new energy to residents and small business owners, and are expected to play a significant role in revitalizing local commerce. We will continue to create a clean commercial environment and make Dongjak-gu a place people want to visit."
