On January 8, Minister of Foreign Affairs Cho Hyun met with Takayuki Kobayashi, Chairman of the Policy Research Council of the Liberal Democratic Party of Japan (LDP), who is visiting Korea, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs building. They exchanged views on Korea-Japan relations as well as regional and global affairs. Chairman Kobayashi is considered a prominent figure, regarded as the 'number three' in rank within the ruling LDP of Japan.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Minister Cho noted that, amid rapidly changing international circumstances, Korea and Japan are maintaining close cooperation and that Korea-Japan relations are moving in a positive direction based on shuttle diplomacy between the leaders of the two countries.
Minister Cho also expressed his hopes to Chairman Kobayashi, stating, "I hope you will become a greater political leader who considers the future of East Asian countries, including Japan," and requested his efforts to further strengthen cooperation between Korea and Japan in various fields.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that Chairman Kobayashi also acknowledged that shuttle diplomacy between the two countries' leaders has enabled Korea-Japan relations to develop in a future-oriented and stable manner. He emphasized that, given the current international situation, continued cooperation among Korea, Japan, and the United States is important.
