Kang Hakseo, former Director of the Marine and Fisheries Bureau of Boryeong City, officially announced on January 8 that he will run for Chungnam Provincial Assembly member representing Boryeong City District 2 in the upcoming local elections scheduled for June 3.
He described his past voting choices as a "disaster caused by habitual voting," stated that he has changed his political party, and pledged to prove his 40 years of field administration experience through his campaign promises.
At a press conference held in the Boryeong City Hall press room on the same day, Kang said, "I am a traitor who voted for Yoon Suk-yeol in the last presidential election," adding, "I have come to realize, in the harshest way, how dangerous indifferent choices can be."
He further described the '12·3 Martial Law' as "an outright military coup," and explained that this was the background for his departure from the People Power Party and joining the Democratic Party of Korea.
Kang previously ran as a People Power Party candidate for District 2 in the 8th nationwide local elections in 2022, but was defeated in the party primary.
He emphasized, "After long deliberation, I have decided to run," and added, "I will connect my 40 years of experience in fisheries administration to bring about real changes in the fields of maritime affairs, tourism, and the economy."
His major campaign pledges include: ▲ ultra-modernization of Daecheon 1 and 2 traditional markets ▲ establishment of a multifunctional port complex on Wonsan Island ▲ construction of an expressway from Daecheon IC to Daecheon Beach ▲ ecological restoration of the Hongbo district ▲ development of 'Boryeong Only One' specialty products ▲ creation of a gourmet city in the northern region ▲ and island tourism that integrates arts and culture.
Kang appealed, "We no longer need a politics of trainees manufactured by political brokers and agencies," and urged voters, "For the next generation, please stop habitual voting and make careful choices." Democratic Party local election preliminary candidates and party members attended the press conference.
