Instructions Given During Public Relations Office Briefing
"Utilize Well-Known Figures as Publicity Ambassadors"
Kim Jeonggi, Acting Mayor of Daegu, received a report on the major work plans for 2026 from the Public Relations Office at Daegu City Hall on January 7. He emphasized the need to expand city government publicity in line with changing new media trends.
Acting Mayor Kim stressed, "As user numbers are increasing on platforms like YouTube and Instagram, shifting away from Facebook and Twitter, diversify publicity efforts by utilizing these new media channels."
According to the "2024 Social Media User Survey" released last year by the Korea Press Foundation, excluding KakaoTalk-which is mainly used as a personal messenger-YouTube (84.9%), Instagram (38.6%), Facebook (15.1%), and Twitter (6.7%) were the most widely used platforms in that order.
On average, each person uses 4.25 social media platforms. The most used were KakaoTalk (98.9%), YouTube (84.9%), and Instagram (38.6%). While KakaoTalk has the largest number of users, it is primarily used as a personal messenger rather than for social media publicity.
Acting Mayor Kim instructed, "Further diversify the existing Daegu TV YouTube channel by producing content that is entertaining and visually engaging, and enhance public consensus by promoting policies with the help of well-known local figures serving as publicity ambassadors."
Regarding city branding, he noted, "There is still a lack of city branding that reflects our city's identity." He directed, "Discuss with relevant departments ways to promote and publicize our city's identity more widely, such as by utilizing various souvenirs or available spaces within city hall."
For this year's publicity direction, he instructed, "In the first half of the year, promptly publicize departmental work reports to highlight the 'immediate action' policy stance, and steadily prepare plans to promote the city’s vision and major commitments in line with the launch of the ninth popularly elected administration in the second half."
He also stated, "Thoroughly promote major events scheduled for this year-including the Daegu Marathon, the World Masters Athletics Championships, and the 20th Daegu International Musical Festival-to generate excitement and ensure their successful hosting."
Acting Mayor Kim Jeonggi requested, "Respond firmly to any defamatory or malicious media reports, but adopt an open attitude by utilizing constructive criticism and suggestions regarding policies to improve governance."
