Former Mayor Park Ilho of Miryang City, Gyeongnam Province, who was indicted on charges of receiving several hundred million won from the head of an apartment construction development company during his tenure, was acquitted in the first trial.

The 4th Criminal Division of the Changwon District Court, presided over by Chief Judge Kim In-taek, held a trial on the afternoon of January 8 regarding Park's bribery charges and delivered this verdict.

According to the court, Park was accused of accepting 200 million won from Mr. A, the head of an apartment construction development company, in 2018 during his term in exchange for exempting the company from the obligation to create a small park.

Previously, at the sentencing hearing last year, the prosecution requested the court to sentence Park to 10 years in prison, a fine of 400 million won, and the forfeiture of 200 million won.
