Designer Kim Minjun of OFTHEYEAR Studio Selected as Final Winner
Visualizing the Theme of "Bodyscape"... Embodying the Identity of City, Mime, and Festival
The main poster for the 38th Chuncheon Mime Festival, which will be held in May, has been released.
The Chuncheon Mime Festival Association (Chairperson Jung Jaeyeon) has selected the work of designer Kim Minjun from OFTHEYEAR Studio as the final winner of the main poster design contest for the 38th Chuncheon Mime Festival. The main poster will be used across a variety of promotional media, including offline materials such as leaflets, banners, and placards, as well as SNS content, the official website, and video content.
This year’s festival theme is “Bodyscape.” “Bodyscape” encompasses the sensory experience created as the body (body), environment (scape), and artistic networks (scape) permeate one another. The main poster also visually expresses “Bodyscape,” aiming to encapsulate the artistic direction and identity of the festival in a condensed form.
A total of 33 designers participated in the contest, and after a thorough review, the main poster was selected for its organic combination of Chuncheon, mime, and festival elements within a single image, clearly conveying the identity that the Chuncheon Mime Festival seeks to uphold. The poster was highly praised for effectively expressing the festival’s unique energy through vibrant colors and dynamic composition, as well as for being a purely original creation that stands apart from conventional commercial designs. Additionally, while drawing inspiration from calligrapher Kim Seongjang’s work, the design freely reinterprets these motifs rather than directly borrowing them, thus capturing both the continuity and contemporary sensibility of the festival. Its structure also allows for easy adaptation and expansion across various promotional media, which was a key reason for its selection.
Designer Kim Minjun stated, “I sought to visually interpret the identity of the Chuncheon Mime Festival, which connects the city, art, and citizens, by depicting scenes of connection and harmony that transcend spatial and psychological boundaries through dynamic gestures, a rich palette, and an expansive structure. I wanted to capture the excitement and energy of Chuncheon citizens gathering for the festival and propose a new communal experience within the urban space.”
Meanwhile, the 38th Chuncheon Mime Festival will be held over eight days from May 24 to 31 at venues throughout Chuncheon City, including the Festival Theater Momjit, Seoksacheon Trail, and the Legoland Korea Resort parking lot. Last year’s 37th festival featured major programs such as Ah! Surajang and Dokkaebi Nanjang, attracting 101,780 citizens and tourists and immersing the entire city in a festive atmosphere. The Chuncheon Mime Festival is recognized as one of the world’s top three mime festivals and has been selected as an “Honorary Culture and Tourism Festival” and a “Local 100” event by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, establishing itself as a leading global cultural tourism festival representing South Korea.
