Nomination and Reexamination Committees Launched Simultaneously
"Fair Procedures Are the Starting Line for Victory on June 3"

The Democratic Party of Korea Gyeongbuk Provincial Party Committee held its first executive committee meeting of the new Byeong-o year and officially declared a transition to a full-scale election system in preparation for the June 3 local elections. The committee finalized the formation of the Nomination Management Committee and the Reexamination Committee, establishing 'fair and transparent nominations' as its core principle.

On January 7, the Democratic Party of Korea Gyeongbuk Provincial Party Committee (Chairperson Im Miae) held an executive committee meeting at the provincial party’s conference room and approved the formation plans for the Nomination Management Committee and the Reexamination Committee.

This meeting went beyond simple organizational restructuring, serving as a venue to share the direction for nomination principles and the election schedule that will shape the entire local election process.

This move is in line with the central party's emphasis on a 'systematic nomination' approach. The party leadership has declared the so-called 'Four No Principles'-excluding unqualified candidates, unfair cutoffs, parachute nominations, and illegal screening-and has launched the Nomination Grievance Center and the Clean Inspector Team. The Gyeongbuk Provincial Committee is also focusing on enhancing the predictability and credibility of the nomination process in line with these measures.

Previously, the Gyeongbuk Provincial Committee completed the evaluation of elected officials, formed the Preliminary Candidate Qualification Screening Committee and the Objection Handling Committee, and has been accepting applications for the first round of preliminary candidate qualification screening from December 29 of last year to January 9 of this year.

With the executive committee now having finalized both the Nomination Management Committee and the Reexamination Committee, party members wishing to run in the local elections will undergo a more systematic and fair screening process.

Im Miae, Chairperson of the Gyeongbuk Provincial Committee, stated, "The 'Yeongnam Talent Development and Regional Advancement Special Committee' and the 'National Party Promotion Special Committee,' which will institutionally support the development of Yeongnam and foster talent, are also gaining momentum," adding, "Victory in the June 3 local elections will be the starting point for fully rooting the achievements of the people's government in all 22 cities and counties of Gyeongbuk."

Meanwhile, following the first round of qualification screening, the Gyeongbuk Provincial Committee plans to immediately begin accepting applications for the second round of preliminary candidate qualification screening. The committee aims to keep the doors open as wide as possible for talented individuals, seeking to preempt unnecessary controversies over nominations and to strengthen electoral competitiveness.

In political circles, there is an assessment that, starting with this executive committee meeting, the Democratic Party in Gyeongbuk has entered a 'nomination-centered election preparation phase.' Attention is focused on how the systematic nomination process, emphasizing fairness, will impact the actual election landscape.
